Transmission in workplaces remain a concern

Infection rates in Telford and Wrekin have declined by only 2%, while the regional and national averages are dropping more quickly.

Eight out of every ten new infections are in the working-age population.

Looking at the data, we think transmission in the workplace is why our infection rates are not falling as quickly compared to other areas.

What can we do?

To avoid the spread in the workplace:

  • Do not car share
  • Remember hands-face-space at work and on breaks
  • If you are unable to work from home, you should get tested twice a week. You can book a rapid test online.
  • It is essential for people who test positive or are close contacts to self-isolate for 10 days.

Overall, our numbers have declined, and the NHS locally has hit its targets on vaccinations. All of this is excellent news.

There will continue to be new cases, even with the vaccination rollout. However, we need infection rates to fall in line with the West Midlands and England averages to keep people safe.

We cannot let our guard down. The end of lockdown is in sight, but we need to stay the course so that restrictions can be lifted as planned and on time.

Covid-19 vaccinations open to over 60s

If you are aged 60 and over, you can now book your Covid-19 vaccination at a local centre.

It helps if you have your NHS number to hand. If you don’t know it, you can find your NHS number out on the NHS website.

We advise you to get your vaccine ASAP but you can also wait to be contacted by your local GP if you prefer an appointment at your surgery.

The vaccination programme is going really well locally and is now moving quickly:

  • over 98% of Telford and Wrekin residents over 70s have already had their first vaccination dose
  • more priority groups have recently been offered the vaccine – such as the unpaid carers.

Thank you to everyone who has their vaccine so far.
