Make a change 11 – 18

Make a change 11 – 18

Project information and criteria
The initiative aims to get young people in Telford and Wrekin thinking about what they could do to make positive changes within their communities. We would like you to develop a project that you would like to deliver and tell us about it. You could win £2000 to make your project happen!

Age group for entries:

11 – 18.
The project should fit into one of the following three themes. These were the top three themes highlighted in the Make Your Mark ballot in March 2022:

health and wellbeing
jobs, money, homes and opportunities.
Your project could take place in your local community or school, e.g. a sensory or nature area or a project to help students improve their health. The project could cover a group of people living in different areas such as deaf young people, young people from military families or LGBTQ+. However it must take place within and benefit residents of Telford and Wrekin.

You should work out how much your project will cost – the prizes to the successful ideas will be £2000 so your project will need to cost around that.

Your project should take no longer than 12 months to deliver.

You will need to think about an organisation (e.g. a school or community group) that can sponsor your project and hold the money if you win. There will need to be an adult involved to help with the project.

Complete the online form now to enter

Closing date for entries is Friday 17 March 2023.

Judging will take place between March – May and the results will be announced publicly at the presentation on Tuesday 27 June, 2023 at Telford Theatre. The successful projects will be informed in May 2023 and a video will be made of their ideas.

There will be five prizes each of £2,000.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my idea too big or small?

We would love to see all your ideas. Be as imaginative as possible, big or small, basic or extra we want to know.

I have an idea but I’m not sure how much it would cost?

Fill in the form and share your idea with us and we can help to cost and plan out your project idea with you.

I’m nervous about leading a project if my idea is picked?

You won’t be alone. As part of your entry you will need to be supported by an adult (parent, grandparent, carer etc.) or group (such as your school, youth club, sports club, guides etc.) we can also help with further support from our team and / or local businesses; to help you bring your idea to life.

Can I apply by myself?

Entries are accepted from groups only (2 or more young people working together).

Can I send in an idea with a friend?

Yes we’d love to see it, but it will be classed as one project.

I’ve got an idea but I’ll be 19 this year?

As long as you are aged between 11 – 18 years on or before 17 March 2023, you can send us your project ideas and apply.

I’m not sure what a good community project would be?

A community project can cover almost anything that would improve or benefit your community or area. Think of the themes first; health and wellbeing, environment and jobs, money, homes and opportunities. Does that prompt an idea for you? For health and wellbeing it could be setting up a forest school for a local club, arranging a sport or fitness class, for environment it could be tidying up and planting a community garden, for jobs, money, homes and opportunities it could be setting up a CV workshop or learning scheme.
