Ideas Made Real
For 16 – 24 Year Olds
Have you ever had an idea about something that could make a huge difference?
Is there something missing that would change people’s lives that you think would be great to see?
Are you passionate about creating happy places or beautiful spaces that everyone can enjoy?
If you’ve answered yes to any of these, then read on – you’re in the right place!
Ideas Made Real is an exciting & unique opportunity for young people 16-24 to turn their awesome ideas into a reality with an Ideas Made Real Award powered by Gen22 and The Birmingham2022 Commonwealth Games
We are looking for ideas and projects in local communities across the West Midlands, that you think will make a huge difference.
Supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, we will pick 22 ideas and make them real! Giving you the freedom to tell us what you’d like to see done differently or added to, and we’ll support you to make it happen.
Can you run a community event to bring people together?
Do you want to run a campaign to tackle a local issue or stigma or change perspectives?
Want to turn local run-down benches into works of art?
Tell us your Ideas Made Real and let us help you make it a reality!
What’s on offer?
Gen22 knows that young people have some amazing ideas and are passionate about social action but it’s not always easy to turn these ideas into reality.
We want to give you the chance to not just think about something, or take small steps to achieving it, but support your project with an Ideas Made Real Award that will give you the chance to go the extra mile and make it happen, turning that idea into a reality.
Across the West Midlands, we will fund 22 social action projects, making a huge impact with each one. Shortlisted projects will get to pitch their idea to a panel of young people, and community leaders at our Power Plan weekend, at which point we’ll decide the winning ideas. Each successful project will also have direct support from a Gen22 Social Action Activator to help you through the process – from design to launch!
We’ll also link you with a local community-based organisation who will help you to create your project.
Before you apply
We are trying to make applying as simple as possible! We’ll ask you for a few personal details from you so that we can get in touch and keep you up to date with what’s happening. (Don’t worry though, we won’t share your data with anyone outside the organisation without your permission)
The most important bit for us is to hear about your great idea! At this point we’re not looking for you to have a business plan, marketing strategy or even a health and safety policy – we just want to know about what you would do with funding from the Ideas Made Real Awards project.
Simply film yourself and your team if you have one, telling us what you would do – and the difference it will make. We’re especially keen to hear about why you’re so passionate about doing this and being involved.
- Make sure you have recorded your video telling us about your idea, and the difference it will make (Each video should be no longer than 2mins or 100MB)
- We’re not looking for feature films or heavily edited movies – feel free to add some surprises but we’re really looking for you to tell us about what you want to do.
- Show us your passion! We want to see that you’re excited about your idea
- Don’t be put off by how much it’s going to cost. You can give us a rough idea, but we’re not looking for you have done a budget or have all the details.
- Be Unique! Don’t be afraid to think outside the box!
- Make sure you save the dates for our PowerPlan weekend! Shortlisted projects will be invited along on the 7 & 8 May!
